New Features on STARS
This page will introduce you to new features as they become available on the
STARS system.

other offices are continually researching
new ways to improve the Student/Alumni Records System (STARS).
This web page will list updated or new features on STARS with the date those updates
were made or the date the new features were added. After reviewing these features, try them out on
STARS!

New Feature - Enhanced Security Features
The STARS system has been updated to use 8-character passwords instead of 4-digit pins.
You will be notified when your PIN has expired and you will then need to create a new password. The passwords must be 8-characters
long and must contain at least one letter and one number.

New Feature - Emergency Alert Contact Update
A new Emergency Alert Contact Update screen has been added to STARS. It allows you to provide
the university with phone/cell/e-mail information where you want to be contacted by voice, text and/or e-mail in the event of an
emergency on campus. This screen will automatically display the first time you sign on to STARS
each semester, and is always available to you on the STARS drop down menu.

New Feature - Parent Guest Acceess
Students may now grant online access to their records by using a new STARS page
called Parent and Guest Account Management. This page allows the student to create up to five (5) guest accounts with different
levels of access to the student's information. Parent and Guest Access is the University's preferred method for parents to access
information about their student. The student is responsible for communicating account information, including Guest WIU ID Number
and PIN, to the guest.

Changed Feature - New Styles on STARS
STARS has undergone a facelift. With the upcoming makeover on the Western Illinois University web site, STARS
has also upgraded its pages to maintain the University's new look and feel. Every effort has been made to
make this update as seamless as possible but if you encounter any problems using the new
look STARS please contact the AIMS Help Desk at (309)298-2104.

New Feature - Course Search Screen
The Open Class Sections screen has been replaced by a new Course Search screen. The new Course Search screen allows you to
search the current class schedule or projected schedule for specific course criteria, open sections, and department courses.

New Feature - Direct Deposit Authorization
Direct Deposit Authorization is a new screen added to STARS that allows students to enter Direct Deposit information on-line.
Students may sign up to have their paychecks and refunds automatically deposited into their checking and savings account.
An email will be sent to the student's WIU email address each time a change is made to their direct deposit information.
